Melissa Lerner

Born and raised in Sarasota, Florida, I began my nursing career in 1993 on the Neurology unit at Sarasota Memorial Hospital, later transitioning to Medical-Surgical nursing. In 2004, I stepped into a leadership role with a concierge medical practice, where I was able to blend my clinical experience with patient-centered care.
I’m a proud mother of two, and through my marriage to my wonderful husband—a Sarasota physician—I’ve been blessed with three more children and eight beautiful grandchildren (so far!). My heart has always been drawn to service, and I’ve been actively involved in numerous nonprofit efforts both locally and abroad, including work in Africa.
Shortly after the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, I was diagnosed with a rare condition resembling multiple sclerosis, which caused significant weakness and numbness in my arms and legs. At the recommendation of my neurologist, I began a rigorous balance and mobility regimen, walking my two dogs daily and even enrolling in Pilates instructor training. Over time, I regained my strength and balance—and I’m grateful to now live free of falls and weakness.
This journey sparked a deep passion for promoting strength, stability, and mobility as key pillars of longevity and safety. I have a personal and professional sensitivity to movement disorders, particularly Parkinson’s disease—an understanding shaped both by my clinical background and by watching my aunt’s courageous journey with advanced Parkinson’s.
And of course… I love Larry. He’s not just a friend, but an inspiration—and what Parkinson Place provides to our community each day is nothing short of amazing. So, why not dance?!
